Why do people complain that shopping at Wal-Mart hurts the American economy?

William (back in toronto) asked:

I understand that it hurts small business by driving customers away from smaller shops with their lower prices, but I don’t get why all these anti-trade hippos blame Wal-Mart for destroying the American economy. Isn’t Wal-Mart an American corporation? Therefore, doesn’t the money you spend at wal-mart stay in America?

Why did people says that Walmart pays ($8 an hour) it’s employees unfairly while places like Best Buy pay ($8 an hour) their employees the same. Do you think the American Economy would be better off if we stop buying at Wal-Mart, and brought stuff at other stores? It’s seem most retailer pay employees the same, maybe I am wrong.
I am not for or against WalMart. I just want to hear people thoughts I just think it’s funny how people are attacking WalMart for the way it pays it’s employees when other retailers pay near the same.

How important is the knowledge of economics in management?

economics
marcus k asked:

Do I need to go beyond a basic, university economics class to succeed as an executive? How applicable/ practical would my knowledge of economics be if I wanted to be a CEO of a Fortune 500 company (regardless the industry)? Would you say that knowledge of marketing, finance, accounting, supply chain, and organizational behavior be more important? I would appreciate a ranking of the subjects in terms of importance.
