  2. At the start of the Cold War, 1945, the American economy was booming. There was a slow down in the economy during the 1970s which turned into a recession, many feared that we were headed for another depression, but thankfully it didn’t happen.

    During the 1980s the economy started to turn around and life got a bit better, up until the Berlin wall fell, in 1989, and the Cold War came to an end.

    Being a child of the Cold War, I would have to say that the American economy during that time period was good overall.

  3. Most of the US economy during the Cold War was white collar and based on consumer goods. Slowly blue collar work was no longer needed as we outsourced factory work to China and other countries. During the 50’s and 60’s when the economy was highest the unemployment rate was 3.5%.
